Okay, after that last miserable episode, I’m going to do something fun. My Spotify is on shuffle. The first few songs I get I’ll throw down a memory that’s linked to that song, whatever that song reminds me of, or whatever I think of when it starts playing. A little experiment if you will. It may work, it may not. I have also included the links. Hopefully they work. Let us find out…
Reminds me of the movie High Fidelity. Obviously because it plays during the film and appears on the amazing soundtrack. Speaking of amazing, if you haven’t seen the film… why on Earth not?? Do yourself a favor and check it out. It is genius. John Cusack with some of his best work.
Ben Harper – With My Own Two Hands
Reminds of a point in my life when I was knee-deep in music. I was buying albums every day. Literally, I’d buy near a dozen a week. I was so absorbed in music. I was still playing a little bit, and I had the money to journey through the music stores at my leisure and grab whatever caught my eye. Most of my collection, and certainly a lot of my favourites are from those couple of years. The album this song is on is one of my favourite albums ever. It’s magical.
These guys are less known. I bought it towards the end of that glorious era of music appreciation. This song is magnificent. I enjoy it. It reminds me of the time I spent on Heron Island, towards the end of Zoology studies, sleeping on the beach waiting for the sea turtles to lay their eggs. It was on my playlist up there, so it takes me back when I hear it now. I love that.
Michael Franti and Spearhead – Feelin’ Free
What is with all these songs coming from that same time? This reminds me of University again. My first Degree. The Zoology one. Not study itself, but our University BBQs. I remember this playing at one in particular. My mate Matt and I got so sloshed. And then had to go to lab. There dissections. We lost his watch in a squid. Somehow.
Ah… good times.
