Recipe Failure

I saw a blog prompt suggesting bloggers talk about a time they had a recipe fail. Okay.

I don’t have recipe failures myself. Not because I am a good chef. Simply because I tend not to take risks in the kitchen.

I mean, we’re dealing with food here. I don’t mess about with food. I’m not risking ruining my dinner. That’s just reckless.

But, I do remember when my two brothers and I were still living at home, mum decided to make a pavlova.

It was a half-failure.

It tasted amazing.

Unfortunately though, it fell apart.

Picture four people sitting around a table with a spoon each, helping themselves to communal pavlova.

Yeah, ridiculous.

But deliciously ridiculous.

  1. You’re absolutely right. I ruined a whole dish two days ago! I ruin about 10%- a 1/3 of it won’t be very good. So of a giant stack of pancakes, I expect three “over well”, with one extra crispy πŸ˜€ but I’m not proud.

      • Haha!! Yes, well with my cooking prowess, I had to learn to stack the deck in favor of my getting a decent meal out of it. Sure, I could’ve just learned to cook, but I chose to focus on the positive and learn to freeze πŸ™‚

  2. I had no idea what pavlova’s were until last night (we had a cultural night thing at our university aka an excuse for everyone to get drunk). My friend was working for the New Zealand stand and they came out with these meringue-looking thingies. They tasted amazing but they were a bit sticky. So seeing this on your blog this morning was like “hah! I know what they are now!” I bet it tasted good though and it’s the company that mattered too, right?

    • Haha, good timing! My post would’ve made far less sense without that knowledge. They do taste good, yeah. Even that one, and yes you’re right, it’s definitely the company that counts. So, everything worked out.

  3. Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while today. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as good as when I arrived. I’ll be back!

P.S. I would have left you many LIKEs but the LIKE buttons for me are not working on blogs whose URL ends in wordpress.com………… 😦

    • Wow, thanks very much! You’re welcome to camp out as long as you like, of course. I appreciate it. And don’t worry, a comment is worth a thousand likes. πŸ™‚
