Song of the Day – Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington

I’ve liked the Wolfman for a while, so when I discovered that he was playing at a local venue while I was in New Orleans last month, I was giddy with excitement.

He did not disappoint. In fact, the gig was somehow even better than I had anticipated it would be. He was amazing.

So, as I’m going through a few photosĀ from the trip, here is a song I thought of that stuck with me.

You Can Stay, But The Noise Must Go by Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington and The Roadmasters

Song of the Day – Jeff Buckley

Okay, I’m still here. And the song of the day is “Everybody Here Wants You” by Jeff Buckley.

It’s a beautiful song, as so many of Jeff’s were. It’s also late, 2am here, and so a mellow mood is the order of the moment. But this song is also here because he’s the favourite of a good friend, so this is also a mild tribute.

Enjoy the song, I’m gonna get some sleep, and hopefully I’ll see you all in the blogosphere again tomorrow. šŸ™‚

Yes, It Is I…

Yes, I do still exist. Yes, I am considering making a comeback here. Yes, I do realise I have a history of returning to this blog only to vanish again in due time.

But, to be fair… I hadĀ shit to do.

I went to Europe, I went to Bluesfest, I went to America and Canada. I mean, just last month, I even had the pleasure of visiting Amber fromĀ Words Become Superfluous. Amb has becomeĀ lazy busy, just like me, but her blog was extremely popular and wonderful and we actually met through the blogosphere! And then we got to meet! In Canada! And I’m from Melbourne!

Good work, internet.

Anyway, my point is mostly, thatĀ I have made some great friends here, and it would be a shame to vanish for good. So, here I am, if even sporadically.

I’ll be back in a few minutes with the song of the day. I have to think of a good one. I missed you guys! Looking forward to catching up on your blogs.

Song of the Day – Jon Cleary

I’m off to Bluesfest again this year! And I leave in two weeks from yesterday. Let the countdown begin!

And as part of that, here is a song from Jon Cleary and The Absolute Monster Gentlemen. They’re my dark horse for best gig of the festival. But, time will tell onĀ that one. For now, I’m just funking out to them funking out. Here is them doing a cover of The Meter’s ‘Just Kissed My Baby’.

Song of the Day – Cookin’ On 3 Burners

Now a bit of Aussie soul-funk-jazz.

Cookin’ On 3 Burners have always been awesome, but relatively unknown. It’s hard out here for a jazz trio.

Daniel Merriweather is a little more known, and they always like mixing it up with talented soul singers.

Anyway, last year, they collaborated, and gave us ‘Losin’ Streak’. The video obviously bore the budget one would expect from a hard-working Australian jazz trio, but the song is fun and funky.Ā Here it is.

Song of the Day – Terry Callier

Today’s song is ‘You Goin’ Miss Your Candyman’ by Terry Callier. The song isĀ off his 1973 album, What Color Is Love. It’s an awesome album. Maybe his best, but he did have a few great ones.

Man I wish I could have seen him live. This is just about the only live recorded version of this I could find on the interwebz, but you’ll get the idea.

Song of the Day -Curtis Mayfield

Let’s stay old school and legendary for a day, with Curtis Mayfield’sĀ ‘Keep On Keeping On’.

And may I put it to you allĀ that his ‘Superfly’ soundtrack to the film of the same name, is the best movie soundtrack ever. Although, this song isn’t off that soundtrack. It just sparked my thought.

What’s your favourite film soundtrack?

Song of the Day – Jimi Hendrix

It’s time for song of the day! Of course, as I type this, I don’t yet know what it is. It’s not as though I have insufficient options. It’s just, yesterday was Joss Stone day, and, I mean, how do I follow that??

I don’t. I can’t. I’m out. Find your own damn song.

Oh, okay! I’ll come on back.

I’ll find one.Ā I guess I’m going to have to go a little old school and bring out the big guns.

Bam! Jimi Hendrix, bitches!
